Two-time world champion Carlos Yulo gets a shot at the gold medal after getting into the final of the men’s floor exercise in the Baku leg of the 2024 FIG Apparatus World Cup Thursday in Azerbaijan.

Yulo finished third out of 53 performers with a score of 14.333 points to make it into the championship round where only the top eight gymnasts advanced.

Kazuki Minami of Japan took the top spot in the floor exercise qualifiers with 14.466 points while Ryu Sunghyun of South Korea took second place with 14.366 points.

Completing the floor exercise final are Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan with 14.233 points, Yuri Guimaraes of Brazil with 14.166 points, Aurel Benovic of Croatia with 14.166 points, Yahor Sharamkou of Belarus with 14.166 points and Ukraine’s Ilia Kovtun of Ukraine with 14.066 points.

Yulo could have had another shot for a medal in the parallel bars but fell short as he placed ninth with 14.500 points.

Japanese gymnast Kazuki Matsumi took the eighth spot from Yulo after he performed a higher execution score of 8.6 points compared to Yulo’s 8.2 points.

Yulo continues stint as he competes in the parallel bars, vault and pommel horse as of press time.

Also advancing to the medal round is Filipino-American Levi Jung Ruivivar after she finished in sixth place in the women’s uneven bars with 13.466 points.

Also set to compete in the Apparatus World Cup is Emma Malabuyo, who got the silver medal in the Cairo leg last February and will compete in the women’s floor exercise and balance beam.

With Yulo and Aleah Finnegan already clinching their spot for the 2024 Paris Olympics, Malabuyo and Ruivivar look to make the most of competing in the Apparatus World Cup legs to get into Paris.
