If Thoedsak Sinam sticks to his gameplan, Paris Olympics-bound Eumir Marcial will have to go down the well in order to get rid of his Thai rival this Saturday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Malate, Manila.
“He is a technical fighter,” reported Bangkok-based Filipino matchmaker Brico Santig on Tuesday.
“He comes to fight and win.”
“Sinam is kind of similar to Marcial… they just don’t throw punches, they are also a bit cautious when engaging an opponent,” he added.
Santig, who also runs a stable in the Thai capital, recruited Sinam to gauge Marcial’s progress for the Olympics.
“This Thai fighter is a natural super-middleweight,” he said.
Marcial, who regularly fights at middleweight, will have to put on poundage for Paris since he will be fighting at light-heavyweight.
Sinam is arriving Wednesday with his trainer, according to Santig, who was tapped by Sean Gibbons of MP Promotions to provide Marcial a test for his readiness for the Olympics in July.
Sinam, who packs a 23-13 win-loss card with 13 knockouts, is coming off back-to-back victories.
Standing 5-8, Sinam is 28 years old and has fought primarily in Thailand although he has seen action in Korea, Kazakhstan and Indonesia.
Santig also revealed that Sinam fights under the stable of one of Thailand’s biggest outfits based in Pathumthani, a fight town located 32 kilometers from Bangkok.
“He trains at the Sirimongkol gym,” he added, referring to the two-division champion Sirimongkol Singmanasak, who formerly held the World Boxing Council bantamweight and super-feather titles.
Marcial, who only has four professional fights, last fought in the punch-for-pay ranks more than a year ago in San Antonio, Texas.
But the last time he saw action, Marcial settled for runner-up honors during the 2023 Hangzhou Asia Games to secure his Olympic ticket.
