She started playing at age five and by eight years old Charlotte Halstead already has scored three hole-in-ones.
The last ace she did — from 80 yards of the Emerald Isle Golf’s 13th — last October while competing in the Phil Mickelson Junior Championships in California.
It was just one of the feats Halstead has accomplished which earned her several headlines in the local media back in her Henderson, Nevada home.
Last July, she won the 8-under category in the FCG Callaway World Junior held in Palm Desert, California.
That was icing on the cake following her string of runner-up finishes in the US Kids, Girls Invitational and Copperhead Classic.
So, what made her love the sport?
“I love that you see nature and you can make a lot of friends and you can go there every weekend it’s just fun,” said Halstead in an interview.
Born to an American father Casey and Filipina mother Charmaine, Halstead is studying in the morning and practicing in the afternoon.
On weekends, Charmaine said, they go around the states playing in tournaments.
Casey said they are supporting her for as long as she enjoys playing. “The biggest value she can get is in losses and not in winning,” he said.
Yet Charlotte is bent on winning.
“I try to stay focused like if I don’t hit the first shot, I try to stay focus on the next shot,” Charlotte said.
She’s playing under the United States banner at the moment, but who knows when an opportunity to represent the Philippines comes up down the road.
