University of Santo Tomas has lost another potential prospect as Kean Baclaan jumped ship to National University.
After an impressive showing for the Growling Tigers during the Philippine Basketball Association D-League Aspirants’ Cup and in the FilOIl EcoOil Preseason Cup, the 18-year-old guard will be suiting up for the Bulldogs starting Season 85 University Athletic Association of the Philippines.
The former De La Salle Zobel cager joins LA Casinillo and Steve Nash Enriquez as the Bulldogs hope to improve their sixth place finish in Season 84.
Baclaan averaged 16.2 points, 5.4 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.3 steals per game for UST in the D-League including a 35-point outburst against Adalem-St. Claire in the quarterfinals last 5 August.
In the FilOil tourney, Baclaan averaged 4.4 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.6 assists, and 1.2 steals in five games for the Tigers who failed to make it into the quarterfinals with a dismal 2-5 win-loss record.
Baclaan is the latest UST player to leave after Gani Stevens and WIllie Wilson.
Stevens and Wilson moved to the University of the East, joining the likes of Luis Salgado, Abdul Sawat, and Allan Beltran.
However, UST still has
blue-chip recruits in Richi Calimag and Kylle Magdangal, sons of former PBA stars Ricky Calimag and Kenneth Duremdes, respectively.
