A return to Rain or Shine is not a remote possibility for Yeng Guiao.
Just a day after his shocking departure from NLEX, the 63-year-old tactician expressed his interest in rejoining the Elasto Painters and bringing them to their former glory in the Philippine Basketball Association.
But Guiao said he has yet to receive a call from the Rain or Shine management.
“You know, I don’t have any problems with Rain or Shine. I’ve been with them and they are a family to me,” Guiao said.
“But it’s still going to be their decision if they want me.”
Guiao’s departure rocked the league as the Road Warriors are now in the thick of their preparations for the upcoming Commissioner’s Cup on 21 September.
The six-time PBA champion, however, clarified that he did not step down from the post as NLEX coach, but he was instead offered an executive position.
The former Pampanga vice governor said he preferred to continue with his coaching stint as he cannot step away from the game.
Rain or Shine is a perfect destination for him.
Guiao led the Elasto Painters to two titles, making them the last independent team to win a title since 2016.
But the crew of veterans Beau Belga, Gabe Norwood, Mark Borboran and Santi Santillan eventually struggled as they only made it past the playoffs twice in the last five conferences.
Team owner Raymond Yu said anything is possible, knowing that no one has exceeded Guiao’s feat.
