Mika Reyes delivered a masterful performance to lift PLDT Home Fibr to a 25-22, 25-18, 25-21 victory over Army Black Mamba in the Premier Volleyball League Invitational Conference yesterday at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.
Reyes was a force offensively while Dell Palomata, Chin Basas and Fiola Ceballos chipped in significant numbers for the High Speed Hitters, who roared early to dictate the tempo until the final count.
A comely middle blocker from La Salle, Reyes fired 15 kills and a block to finish with a game-high 16 points while Palomata, Basas and Ceballos contributed a combined 33 points to underscore PLDT’s dominance at the offensive end.
Fiola Ceballos was also impressive, firing 10 points, 15 excellent digs and 14 excellent receptions while heady playmaker Rhea Dimaculangan registered 22 excellent sets on top of two hits.
“I always tell them to have a strong start so we can finish well and execute all our plays,” said PLDT coach George Pascua, whose wards boosted their momentum heading into the latter part of the semis where guest teams from Japan and Taipei will be seeing action.
“Fortunately, we were able to achieve it, but there are still a lot of adjustments that we have to make. We have to work hard because the games get tougher from here.”
