Discovering fresh talents will be the main agenda when the Philippine Martial Arts Festival for Women gets going starting 12 November at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex, the Philippine Sports Commission said yesterday.
During the Philippine Sportswriters Association Forum, commissioner Olivia “Bong” Coo said two venues within the RMSC, including the Ninoy Aquino Stadium, will host events in pancake silat, wrestling, sambo, karate, Muay, kickboxing, jiu-jitsu and kurash.
Coo said there will be two more demonstration sports: Arnis and judo.
The five-day event will serve as a buildup for the 2023 Asian Indoor and Martial Arts Games that will be hosted by Bangkok and Chonburi in Thailand.
Coo said that while the three other commissioners have yet to be named by Malacañang, Eala and Coo are trying their best to do what’s best for the athletes.
“If we don’t act, nothing’s gonna happen,” Coo, a bowling legend, said.
The PSC will have its hands full next year since Phnom Penh is hosting the Southeast Asian Games and Hangzhou in China is staging the Asian Games.
