Defending champion Charly Suarez, a Rio Olympian and three-time Southeast Asian Games champion, collides with veteran Mark John Yap in the first defense of his World Boxing Association Asia super-featherweight title today at the Elorde Sports Centre in Paranaque.
A protege of former national team standout Delfin Boholst, the 33-year-old Suarez, came in at 129.2 lbs during the official weigh-in yesterday.
Yap, who has fought extensively overseas, also tipped the scales at 129.2.
Presented by Cucuy Elorde and Robert Hill, the Suarez-Yap showdown will happen at the Flash Grand Ballroom.
Currently, Suarez, who hails from Davao del Norte, has a perfect record of 11-0 with seven knockouts.
Yap, from Cagayan de Pro City, also in Mindanao, sports a 30-16-0 mark with 15 knockouts.
Before turning professional in 2019, Suarez represented the country abroad, taking the silver in the 2014 Incheon Asian Games and also the same color in the 2014 Presidents Cup in Kazakhstan and silver also in the 2011 Tammer Cup in Finland.
