Zonio, Pondias triumph

Canlas settled for the runner-up honors with 71.

Seventeen-year-old Ken Rowel Zonio of host South Pacific Golf and Country Club and Llana Pondias of Apo Golf and Country Club shared the limelight by winning respective divisions to lead the honor roll in the 2022 Sta. Lucia Jungolf-Mindanao Edition Friday.

Zonio leaned on his course familiarity to score a two-under 70 for the boys’ 15-18 crown. He finished with six birdies against four birdies for a one-stroke win over John Gabriel Canlas of Pueblo de Oro.

Canlas settled for the runner-up honors with 71.

Pondias, 15, topped the girls’ 15-18 via countback over Del Monte Golf’s Maura Quijano after both finished with similar 85s.

In other categories, Cody John Langamin of Del Monte Golf finished with 74 to win the boys’ 11-14 followed by David Teves of South Pacific Golf who had 80.

In the distaff side, Valenda Castil of Del Monte wound-up with an 82 for the gross crown ahead of Isabella Alanis Tabanas of Pueblo de Oro (87).

The other division winners:

Boys 8-10 — Anthony James Reserva (West Highland Golf) 44, Alonzo Retuerto (Del Monte Golf) 51;

Girls 8-10 — Kimberly Shane Barroquillo (South Pacific Golf) 40, Blaire Uy King (South Pacific Golf) 44;

Boys 7-and-below — Ethan Franco Lago (South Pacific Golf) 52, Rory Bisera (South Pacific Golf) 53;

Girls 7-and-below: Solail Ianne Molde (Apo Golf) 56, Alessandra Samantha Ibarra (Apo Golf) 69.

Men’s 19-25 — Elee Bisera (South Pacific) 71 (wins via countback), Ronel Tagaan (South Pacific) 71;

Women’s 19-25 — Marie Aparilla (Del Monte) 86, Samantha Beltran (South Pacific) 93.

Some 90 golfers took part in the one-day tournament presented by the South Pacific Golf and Country Club and held under the supervision of the National Golf Association of the Philippines (NGAP).

South Pacific chairman Vicente Santos, NGAP secretary general Bones Floro, national coach Miko Alejandro and national player Mafy Singson graced the tournament.
