The Philippine men’s softball team dumped South Africa, 4-0, to cap its campaign at the XVII WBSC Men’s Softball World Cup with back-to-back wins at Rosedale Park in Auckland on Saturday.
The Blu Boys finished the Placement Round at fourth place with a 2-3 win-loss record after a string of losses in the eliminations.
The Philippines started strong at the top of the fourth inning after Justine John Rosales hit a home run.
Mark Janzen Gaspi scored another run at the top of the fifth inning for a 2-0 Blu Boys lead.
Julius Diaz and Jerome Bacarisas added two more runs for the Philippines to wrap things up at the top of the seventh inning.
Before colliding with the South Africans, the Blue Boys scored an emphatic 8-0 win over Denmark last Friday.
The Filipinos’ highest finish in the World Cup remains at fourth place back in 1968.
