After several years of playing in various commercial leagues, Hesed Gabo is finally headed to the biggest stage of Philippine basketball.
The cool and calculating guard has been offered to play for NLEX when the Philippine Basketball Association Governors’ Cup unwraps on 22 January.
Road Warriors mentor Frankie Lim informed Daily Tribune of the development, saying that Gabo was given a one-year offer along with free agent Clint Doliguez.
Gabo had won titles with Basilan in the VisMin Cup and BRT Sumisip-St. Clare in the PBA D-League.
He was also named Finals Most Valuable Player of the inaugural Filbasket tournament after leading AICC Manila to the best-of-three championship series against San Juan Go-For-Gold.
But more than that, he played a key role in Nueva Ecija’s title conquest in the recent season of the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League in which he was also named part of the Mythical Team.
With that, it is not surprising that Gabo, a former Mapua University star, is being considered as one of the country’s best players outside the PBA.
Now, he will have a golden opportunity to showcase his talent in the PBA as he joins a rebuilding Road Warriors squad.
Lim said Gabo and Doliguez had already started joining their workouts and have been bonding well with the Road Warriors.
The addition of Gabo and Doliguez are some of the few changes being made by the Road Warriors, who just recently appointed seven-time PBA champion and former Gilas Pilipinas star Larry Fonacier as team manager.
NLEX had also included Melo Lim and JB Sison, who served as deputies of Lim at San Beda University, to join the coaching staff.
