CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY — Ralph Rian Batican supplied the firepower while Alethea Gaccion provided the drama as the JGFP Pueblo de Oro Junior Open drew to a close on Sunday.
Batican, who opened with a 68 Saturday, closed with a 67 to finish the event on 9-under 135, 18 shots ahead of Davao champion Jared Saban.
He fired an eagle and six birdies against a bogey and double bogey.
The fight for the girls’ 15-18 division was settled via a playoff.
Gaccion, who started the day four shots off the pace, sank an eight-foot birdie putt to edge Kiara Montebon who missed her birdie try earlier.
Both players wound up on 141 with Gaccion shooting a 68 and Montebon accounting for the tournament’s best round — a 66.
The two-day event did not end without controversy.
Cliff Richard Nuneza posted the best 36-hole score in the boys’ 15-18 class but was disqualified for signing the wrong scorecard.
Korean Youngdu Cho won the division on 143 after rounds of 71 and 72. Rex Zaragosa climbed to second place on 145 following a 69.
Davao champions Zero Plete, Nicole Gan, Stephanie Gan, Brittany Tamayo and Lucas de Guzman.
Plete was dominant in the girls’ 13-14, closing with an 84 for 172, 51 shots clear of Xylie Julienne Mabale who had a 111.
Nicole Gan closed with a 78 to capture the girls’ 11-12 on 154, 15 shots ahead of Isabella Tabanas who had an 88.
Stephanie Gan, one of the youngest participants at five years old, edged Soleil Ianne Molde by two shots in the girls’ 6-and-under class.
She returned an 86 for 173 while Molde carded an 80 for 175.
In the girls’ 11-12, Tamayo Brittany Tamayo shot a 70 for 139, 25 shots ahead of Kimberly Barroquillos.
De Guzman was the runaway winner in the boys’ 6-and-under after a 76 and 153, 27 shots clear of Ethan Franco Lago.
The other division winners are Clement Ordeneza in the boys’ 13-14, Jacob Gomez in the boys’ 11-12, Gunnar Lucas Velez in the boys’ 7-8, and Brianna Macasaet in the girls’ 7-8.
