The World Boxing Council listed 14 Filipino fighters, led by featherweight Mark Magsayo, in the last ratings released by the Mexico-based sanctioning body.
Magsayo, who faces Brandon Figueroa of the US for the interim championship on 6 March in Ontario, California, came in at N. 2 in the 126-lb class.
Also included on the list are four-division champion Donnie Nietes and three-division titbits John Riel Casimero.
Nietes is No. 6 in the super-flyweight division and another Filipino, Thailand-Based Adrian Lerasan, is at No. 10.
Casimero is No. 8 in the super-bantamweight category.
In boxing’s lightest division, strawweight (105 lbs), there are three Filipinos—Garren Diagan (No. 8) and former champions Rene Cuarto (No. 9) and Pedro Taduran (No. 10).
In the light-fly class, there are two: Mark Vicelles (No. 9) and Joney Canoy (No. 13).
Dave Apolinario is the lone Filipino entry at fly (112 lbs) at No. 13 while the powerhouse bantam bracket of 118 bs is inhabited by Nonito Donaire, the other Filipino four-division titleholder, at No. 1; Reymart Gaballo at No. 3 and Vincent Astrolabio at No. 5.
Unbeaten Carl Jammes Martin is No. 13 at super-bantam.
The country’s only reigning world champion—minimumweight Melvin Jerusalem—reigns over at the World Boxing Organization.
