Carlos Yulo missed out on the final of the men’s floor exercise and men’s rings in the first day of the FIG World Cup at the Lausitz Arena in Cottbus, Germany early Friday.
Yulo finished the qualifying round of the men’s floor exercise at 20th place out of 52 participants with 13.4 points.
Tokyo Olympics gold medalist Artem Dolgopyat topped the qualifiers after netting 14.843 points while Milad Karimi of Kazakhstan was second with 14.6 markers and
Benjamin Oseberger came in third place with 14.066 points.
In the men’s rings, the 23-year-old Yulo placed 13th out of 47 gymnasts with 13.833 points.
Rio Olympics champion Eleftherios Petrounias of Greece topped the apparatus with 14.733 points while Mahdi Ahmad Kohani of Iran came in at second place with 14.666 makers.
World Champion Adem Asil of Turkey came in third place with 14.633 points.
This is just the first of the four legs the two-time world champion will face as he piles up points for the Paris Olympics 2024.
After the German leg, Yulo is slated to fly to Doha for the second leg from 1 to 4 March, the third leg in Baku from 9 to 12 March, and the fourth leg in Cairo from 27 to 30 April.
He is currently competing in the men’s vault and men’s parallel bars at press time while another Filipino gymnast in Juancho Miguel Besana has yet to make his World Cup debut.
