IMG Qualifiers: Tight battles shape up

Tight battles were shaping up in two girls’ divisions as the IMG Junior World Qualifiers got going at the Riviera Golf and Country Club in Silang, Cavite on Friday.

Brianna Macasaet and Kamilla Edriana del Mundo shot identical nine-over-par 63s to share the lead in the girls’ 7-8 age-group division.

The battle for the third slot in the US event was also tight between Maurysse Abalos and Venus de los Santos who each carded 77.

In the girls’ 6-and-under, Davao’s Soleil Ianne Molde fired a 68 to take a one-shot lead over Athena Winter Serapio. Stephanie Gan made it a three-way race after opening with a 72.

Soreen Lee took a five-stroke lead over Halo Virgil Pangilinan in the boys’ 7-8 while Kenzo Gavin Tan was the runaway leader in the boys’ 6-and-under after sizzling for 56.

The top three performers in each division after 54 holes will get tickets to the annual event set in San Diego, California.
