Young Pacman wins in California

The son also rises.

Jimuel Pacquiao, son of eight-division legend Manny Pacquiao, beat southpaw Dylan Merriken in a four-round lightweight amateur bout Friday in Montebello, California.

Fighting much better than the last time in May, Jimuel was composed and sharp in his delivery of punches en route to earning a junior belt from the World Boxing Council.

“He performed very well tonight,” exclaimed boxing man Sean Gibbons, who was in attendance like Jimuel’s mother Jinkee.

A first-timer in his son’s fights, Jinkee was seen shouting and even crying.

Manny was in General Santos City and failed to witness the fight.

Jimuel, who has been staying in Los Angeles and training at the Wild Card in Hollywood for the past 12 months, lost his last fight and vowed to storm back in his bid to sustain his career.

Gibbons said another outing is in the offing for the 21-year-old Jimuel, who is a right-hander unlike his lefty dad.

Jinkee, relieved that his son came out on top, said that the whole Pacquiao family will be at ringside when that happens.

“I was super nervous,” Jinkee, radiant as ever, told Daily Tribune, admitting that while she had butterflies in her stomach, watching her son was on a different level.

“I was crying a lot,” she said.

In the end, tears were replaced by loud cheers.
