Superal, Constantino cruising on 1-under

Princess Superal and Harmie Constantino matched one-under par cards after 12 holes before play was suspended due to lightning in the SAT-TWT Open Road to World Ranking in Prachin Buri, Thailand Wednesday.

Superal, the newly-crowned Asia Pacific Cup champion, mixed two birdies with the same number of bogeys while Constantino had one birdie to trail solo leader Kusuma Meechai by seven shots.

Meechai tamed the rain-softened Kabin Buri Golf Club course with a solid all-round game, ramming in five birdies at the front and three more in the first six holes before the air horns sounded.

Pre-tournament favorits Budsbakorn Sukapan was the clubhouse leader on 65, two shot ahead of Sherman Santiwiwatthanaphong. Both players did not make a single bogey.

The ICTSI-backed Superal was back in Thailand after sharing 21st last week.

Constantino, making a rare stint on the Thailand LPGA ahead of next week’s resumption of the Ladies Philippine Golf Tour, birdied the 10th, her opening hole, but settled for pars in the next 11 holes.

Superal and Constantino shared provisional 13th place in the Bt2.5 million tournament on the Thailand Women’s PGA calendar.

Over in Vietnam, Eric Gallardo struggled with a 74 on a one-birdie, three-bogey card in the first round of BRG Open Championship of the Asian Development Tour.

American Miguel Delgado shot a two-under-par 70 at the BRG Da Nang Golf Resort to take the clubhouse lead.

Teeing off first in the $75,000 tournament, Gallardo parred the first five holes but dropped a stroke on the par-5 sixth, birdied 11 but bogeyed 14 and 15 for a pair of 37s on the challenging layout.

Delgado, meanwhile, shot four birdies to negate his bogeys on 4 and 14, for the early lead in the 54-hole tournament serving as fourth-to-last leg of this year’s ADT, the farm league of the Asian Tour.

Lloyd Go, who tied for second in last week’s BNI Ciputra ADT in Indonesia, and Fidel Concepcion teed off in the afternoon and were still out on the course.
