Elee Bisera birdied five holes in the back nine of Rancho Palos Verdes Golf and Country Club to chalk up 42 points and power defending champion SMNI to a 15-point lead over Nippon Tech Builders in the 12th Davao Eaglemasters golf tournament Saturday.

SMNI also drew 37 points from Ronel Tagaan, 36 from Lloyd Labrador and 32 from Alexander Bisera to finish the day with 147 points. Jhondie Quibol failed to count with 29.

Bisera’s 6-under total put him in a good position to win the individual trophy.

Overshadowed by SMNI’s overpowering performance was the tight battle for second place among three teams separated by only two points.

Nippon rode on Edison Tabalin’s 39 to end the day with 132, one point ahead of Manila Southwoods-based Arcadia.

Tabalin bucked a double bogey to salvage 69 in stroke play.

He received solid support from Demetrio Sanchez 35, Jaime Antonio Beech 31 and Nelson Roa 27.

Arcadia was led by Ace Stehmeier’s 37 points. Also counting for the squad were Ken Rowell Zonio 33, JJ Alvarez 31 and Bayani Garcia 30.

UBI-Tapa King totaled 130 points through Rodel Mangulabnan’s 34, Jon Baron’s 33, Karloz Alba’s 32 and actor Derek Ramsay’s 31.

A far fourth on 122 was Golden Boys led by Junjun Plana’s 36 points.
