Myles Powell and the rest of the Bay Area Dragons are definitely for real.
On Saturday, the Dragons bucked a slow start to score a 101-91 victory over Phoenix in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup at the Smart Araneta Coliseum with Powell showcasing his shooting savvy anew.
The Fuel Masters outscored the Dragons, 29-16, in the opening quarter but Bay Area would not be denied its third straight win as Powell, a former Philadelphia 76er, conducted another scoring clinic.
Powell finished with a double-double performance of 32 points and 10 rebounds to lead the way for the Dragons, who scored 48 points inside the paint, 12 more than the Fuel Masters.
Bay Area also scored 37 points coming from Phoenix’s 26 total turnovers as the Fuel Masters just couldn’t get their game going in the import-laced tournament. The Fuel Masters absorbed their third loss in as many matches to drop into the cellar.
Hayden Joel Blankley contributed 15 markers on top of six rebounds while veteran Duncan Reid had a double-double showing of 14 points and 10 boards for the Dragons and Glen Robertson Yang added 14 points.
