Newly-elected Junior Golf Foundation of the Philippines president Oliver Gan has held talks with his counterpart in Thailand during a recent business trip last week.

Gan and Likit Chaiyakitch, president of the Junior Golf of Thailand Club, discussed ways to help pursue their respective programs.

“We made a reciprocal agreement. Next year, we will have the Philippines to compete,” Chaiyakitch said.

Gan was elected president on 3 October.

The other officers are Aurelio Gomez, executive vice-president; Mariel Macasaet, secretary; AJ Adiviso, treasurer; Ely Saludar, press relations officer; Jun Cedo as executive director; Lue de Guzman, membership committee head; Jun Cedo, executive director; Baltaire Balanguan, training chief; and Charlie Go, Visayas tournament head.

Gan said he’s happy to lead and implement the junior golf program.

A former junior golf player, the 39-year-old businessman said he hopes to bring back the glory days by organizing more tournaments for juniors.

Before he was elected JGFP chief, Gan served as program officer for the National Capital Region at the Philippine Sports Institute — a branch under the Philippine Sports Commission.

He also served as an adviser for golf at the Games and Amusements Board under then chairman Baham Mitra, and is currently vice president for Sports of Xavier School Alumni Board.

The first event for the JGFP is the Inter-School Championship set on 16 October at Eagle Ridge and Riviera Sports in Cavite.

To accommodate new golfers who picked up the sport during the pandemic, Gan said they will introduce a separate division as part of their development programs.
