Games today:
(Rizal Memorial Coliseum)
10 a.m. — UP vs Mapua
12:30 p.m. — Letran vs Saint Benilde
3 p.m. — EAC vs Adamson
5:30 p.m. — UST vs Lyceum

University of Santo Tomas is tipped to go all out when it takes on upset-conscious Lyceum of the Philippines University with the ticket in the second round of the Shakey’s Super League Collegiate Preseason Championship at stake today at the Rizal Memorial Coliseum.

Game time is set at 5:30 p.m. with the Tigresses looking to come up with a fitting follow-up to their 25-13, 25-19, 25-15 victory over hapless Emilio Aguinaldo College last week that gave them a 3-0 win-loss record for the top spot of Pool B.

UST coach Kungfu Reyes, however, knows that they still need to hurdle the Lady Pirates in order to join other qualifiers University of Perpetual Help and University of the Philippines of Pool A, Pool C squads National University and Ateneo de Manila University and Pool D’s De La Salle University and Far Eastern University in the second round.

“We just need to be more consistent. We need to finish on a high note, that’s what we want,” Reyes said.

Lyceum, on the other hand, is reeling from a painful 15-25, 22-25, 16-25, defeat from the hands of Adamson University.

The Lady Pirates are tied with the Lady Falcons at second spot with identical 2-1 slates.

“This is a do-or-die game for us. We need to address the mistakes we made in our last game if we want to advance to the second round,” Lyceum coach Cromwell Garcia said.

Meanwhile, Adamson shoots for the other second round seat in Pool B against the Lady Generals in their 3 p.m. match.

UP faces also-ran Mapua University at 10 a.m. while listless Pool D squads College of Saint Benilde and Letran clash at 12:30 p.m.

The Fighting Maroons sport a 3-0 card while the Lady Cardinals carry a 1-2 mark.

Both the reigning NCAA champions Lady Blazers and Lady Knights dropped their first two starts.

In the second round, the top two teams in Pool A and C will compose Pool E while the qualifiers from Pool B and D will be bracketed in Pool F where they will play round robin against teams they have not faced in the first round to determine their rankings in the knockout quarterfinals.

The teams who did not qualify for the second phase of pool play are relegated to the classification round.
