Aaron Jude Bado stunned hometown bet Saengphet Thanarat to capture the gold medal via a split decision in their men’s flyweight clash on Thursday at the conclusion of the ASBC Asian Under-22 Boxing Championships in Bangkok.

Flint Jara could have made it a two-gold performance but he dropped a 5-0 decision to Kazakhstan’s Altunbek Nursultan in their bantamweight bout.

The Philippines is going home from Thailand with a 2-0-2 (gold-silver-bronze) tally after featherweight Jericho Acaylar and minimumweight Mark Lester Durens could only reach the semifinals.

The boxers were accompanied in the Thai capital by former national team standouts Ronald Chavez and Gerson Nietes.

Almost 150 fighters from 20 countries took part in the week-long slugfest.

Uzbekistan had 18 fighters in the gold medal matches while Kazakhstan had eight, Thailand seven, Mongolia five, China four, the Philippines with two and Cambodia, Indonesia, Nepal and Vietnam with one each.
