Manila Braves, Bullpups score twinkills

A six-man Paragon team pulled off a stunning 68-67 win over host team System Plus Computer School in the Under-21 division of the United Basketball League to lead the winners over the weekend at the SPCC Gym in Caloocan City.

Despite its depleted roster, Paragon was able to find ways to win behind Angel Ortilla’s double-double performance of 20 points and 11 rebounds even as Enzo Doctora added 19 markers to lead the squad to victory.

Hector Mendoza also added 11 points for Paragon, which wisely shuffled all its six players in the day and preserved their best for last.

It was a heartbreaking weekend for the host school as its under-17 team also fell short against the National University Bullpups, 59-57.

Alonzo Austria led the way for NU’s under-17 with 15 points and seven rebounds while Kurl Figueroa went a rebound short of ending with a double-double as he tallied 10 markers.

NU made it a twinkill as its under-19 team banked on the unstoppable Collins Akowe, who came away with 33 points and 20 rebounds.

Other teams which won were Hustle Sportswear (under-21), Manila Braves (under-15) and (under-17), Micro Tech (under-16), and Blue Knights (under-13).

Manila Braves pulled off two victories as Paolo Biasca hit 8-of-11 from the field on his way to finishing with 19 markers to lead the under-15 squad to a 54-23 demolition of Passion.

In the under-17, Manila Braves counted on a solid game from Javy Hinoguin, who ended up with 19 points and 16 rebounds to outlast SPCC.
