Winds wreak havoc at ACC

SOCIAL MEDIA

Winds blew all day, making it difficult for players to make their move in the 35th Mango Tee at the Alabang Country Club in Muntinlupa Tuesday.

As a result, the top spots in the overall gross and net divisions remained untouched.

Defending champions Jorge Gallent and Junjun Plana combined for 74 points in calm conditions on Monday and stayed 10 points clear of Dax Garcia-Ayon Sanchez in the overall gross bracket.

Koreans Kim Wan Soo and Lee Dokyung posted the best gross score on Tuesday, tallying 61 points with Kim accounting for 33. But that was only good for fourth spot.

The overall net standings also stayed intact with Koreans Lyu Changsuk and Oh Young Gwon retaining the lead with 75 points.

Two tandems posted identical 74s to tie Raymond Anthony Mendoza and Paulo Legaspi for second. They are Ricky de Castro-Daniel Samaniego and Carolina Nielsen-Joy Sevilla.

Lyu and Oh retained the lead in Group A, two shots ahead of James de Leon and Felix Chua Jr.

In Group B, Ricky de Castro and Daniel Samaniego shot 74 points on Tuesday to join Raymond Anthony Mendoza and Paulo Legaspi on top.

Ramon Opulencia and Alex Palines stayed on top in Group C after posting 72 points on Monday.

The only change in the leaderboard took place in Group D where Carolina Nielsen and Joy Sevilla stormed in front with 74 on Tuesday.

Trailing Nielen-Sevilla by four shots were Philip Lee-Marc Lee and Osler Padua-Santino Rojas.

Due to howling winds, none was expected to do better in the afternoon.

Two more fancied teams — King Stehmeier-Erik Escalona and Tommy Manotoc-Abe Rosal — will see action in the final two batches of the first round on Wednesday.

Stehmeier and Escalona are club champions at Alabang Country Club and Riviera Golf and Country Club.

“With this kind of winds, I doubt we could do better than what Gallent and Plana have accomplished on the first day,” said Manotoc who was at ACC on Tuesday.

The event’s presenters are Smart, Petron, San Miguel and Jewelmer.
