TNT Tropang Giga lost no time claiming a berth in the Leg 4 knockout stage of the Philippine Basketball Association 3×3 Third Conference Season 2.
Almond Vosotros was in his usual fiery form Saturday at Robinsons Place Novaliches, leading the Tropang Giga to a two-game sweep of Pool D and be the first team to advance in Sunday’s scheduled playoffs.
Vosotros had nine points and Chris Exciminiano with eight as the Leg 2 champions made short work of NorthPort Batang Pier, 22-15.
The Tropang Giga followed it up with a 22-17 win over J&T Express with Vosotros topscoring for 11 points.
Platinum Karaoke and Blackwater joined TNT in the next round after securing the two spots allotted in Pool B.
The Red President survived Terrafirma Dyip, 21-20, before Platinum sealed the fate of the Dyip behind a 21-9 rout.
Blackwater and Platinum are fighting for the top spot in Pool B as of presstime.
Other early results saw last week’s leg winner Barangay Ginebra off to a rousing start with a 20-17 triumph over Purefoods, only to be stymied after a 17-12 loss to Pioneer in Pool A for a 1-1 record.
The Titans earlier scored a 16-14 win over Pioneer to create a three-way tie in their group. The two teams with the highest tie-break points get to advance.
The battle for quarterfinal berths in Pool C is just as close amongst Cavitex, San Miguel and Meralco.
The Braves edged out the Beermen, 21-20, but San Miguel bounced back by defeating Meralco in a similar close game, 19-18.
The Beermen ended with a 1-1 card, while leaving the Bolts and Braves with both 0-1 records.
