Ubas takes bronze in Asian indoors

Janry Ubas set a new Philippine record in men’s heptathlon after grabbing bronze medal in the 2023 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships in Astana, Kazakhstan,Sunday evening Manila time.

Ubas tallied 5246 points to grab third place and eclipse the former record set by Jesson Ramil Cid (4565 points) in the 2014 edition of the tournament in Hangzhou, China.

Yuma Marumaya of Japan won the men’s heptathlon with 5801 points while compatriot Keisuke Okuda took second place with 5497 points.

Meanwhile, Leonard Gorospe set a new Philippine record in men’s high jump event at 2.15 meters.

He previously set the record at 2.14m to qualify for the final, where he placed seventh.

Japanese Ryoichi Akamatsu took home the gold of the event after jumping 2.28m.
