The world of poker is a fascinating blend of strategy, psychology, and chance. It’s a game that has captivated millions worldwide, from casual players to professional gamblers. But did you know some of Hollywood’s biggest stars are also serious poker enthusiasts?

From high-stakes tournaments to exclusive home games, these international celebrities have repeatedly proven their poker prowess. Here are some of the most memorable celebrity poker showdowns in the world.

There’s Oscar-winning actor Ben Affleck whose passion for poker is no secret. In 2004, he topped the California State Poker Championship, pocketing a cool $356,400 and securing a seat at the World Poker Tour final tournament. But Affleck’s poker exploits aren’t limited to public events. He’s also known for hosting high-stakes games at his fancy home, where fellow Hollywood A-listers try their luck against his well-honed skills.

Next up is Tobey Maguire, globally recognized for his role as Spider-Man. But Maguire has another less well-known but equally impressive talent: His poker skills. He often took part in the high-stakes games run by Molly Bloom, aka the “Poker Princess.” These games, attended by the who’s who of the scene, became so infamous they inspired the hit movie Molly’s Game. It’s believed that Maguire’s sharp poker skills netted him millions of dollars over the years.

Filipino player Terry Gonzaga secured his career first six figure payout of $172.8K after winning Aria’s $1,600 PLO in Las Vegas. The victory was his third deep run of the year, boosting his live tournament earnings to over half a million dollars. | Photograph courtesy of POKER CLASSIC.COM

American Pie star Shannon Elizabeth is another celebrity who has made a name for herself in poker. Elizabeth considers poker her “second career.” She has been a fixture at major tournaments for over a decade. Elizabeth also cashed in numerous World Series of Poker events. In 2007, she placed third in the NBC National Heads-Up Poker Championship. Her journey is a testament to her competitive spirit and strategic acumen.

Comedian and actor Kevin Hart has been known to bring his unique charisma to the poker felt. Known for his infectious energy and humor, he has competed in several                                                    high-stakes tournaments, including the Super High Roller Bowl and the PokerStars Championship Bahamas. Despite being relatively new to the game, Hart’s passion for poker is evident, and he’s held his own against seasoned pros.

Academy Award nominee Jennifer Tilly is another celebrity with serious poker credentials. Her role in 1989’s Let it Ride reportedly sparked her interest in gambling. She won a WSOP bracelet in 2005 in the Ladies’ No-Limit Texas Hold ‘Em event, proving her skills at the table. Tilly continues to join high-profile tournaments and is becoming well-known in poker circles for her aggressive style and fearless bluffs. Tilly’s poker exploits show she’s as comfortable at the poker table as she is on the big screen.

Michael Phelps, the most decorated Olympian of all time, is also a poker enthusiast. When he’s not winning gold medals in the pool, Phelps is playing a mean game of poker. He’s played in several World Series of Poker events and is known for his disciplined and focused approach to the game. Phelps’ successful transition from the pool to the poker table shows that the skills of discipline and focus are transferable and valuable in both arenas.
