MALAYSIA — President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. on Wednesday congratulated the Philippine Women’s National Football Team on their historic triumph against New Zealand at the FIFA Women’s World Cup.

The Philippines defeated New Zealand by a score of 1-0, with Sarina Bolden scoring the lone goal of the match.

The victory is the first for the Philippines in their history at the Women’s World Cup.

“Congratulations to our Philippine Women’s National Football Team on their historic triumph against New Zealand at the FIFA Women’s World Cup!” Marcos said in a tweet.

“A momentous first-ever world cup win for the Philippines! Mabuhay ang Filipinas,” he added.

Earlier this week, Marcos wished the Philippine national women’s football team the best as it made a historic debut in the FIFA World Cup.

It was a significant period for the Philippine team since both the male and female squads made their debut at the World Cup. This remarkable achievement came after a thrilling penalty shootout victory against Chinese Taipei during the 2022 AFC Women’s Asian Cup qualifiers.
