Hyundai, SM Malls build EV charging stations

Hyundai Motor Philippines Inc. has charted a new course toward a greener future by announcing its ambitious plans to launch six electric vehicle charging stations across the country. Partnering with SM Supermalls, the country's foremost developer, operator, and owner of world-class shopping centers, HMPH has embarked on this groundbreaking initiative this year. In a ceremony held at the SM Mall of Asia recently, Cecil Capacete, managing director of HMPH, said: “Our global vision is based on the belief that we, as an automaker, have to be more proactive when responding to climate change compared to companies in other industries.” “So Hyundai Motor Philippines is very fortunate to be aligned with a company whose approach to sustainability is as holistic as ours. We are glad that we get to contribute to one of the four main pillars of their green movement which is energy.” Hyundai’s collaboration with SM Supermalls doesn’t just end with vision statements. Capacete emphasized that promoting cleaner mobility solutions requires a joint effort in increasing public awareness. He explained: “A key component to supporting society’s adoption of cleaner mobility solutions is through public awareness. And we are one with the SM group on their mission to assure customers, who are looking to transition to an electrified lifestyle, wider access to charging facilities outside of their homes.” In the Philippine market, Hyundai has already laid solid groundwork through the establishment of at least 10 certified Hyundai EV dealers. These dealerships will not only retail and service Hyundai's pioneering EVs like the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6, but will also be equipped with both AC and DC chargers for EV owners. The partnership extends beyond mere sales and servicing of EVs. The following locations were officially announced: 1. SM Mall of Asia, Pasay, Luzon: 3rd Level North Parking Building, from 17 August 10 a.m. — 10 p.m. 2. The Podium, Mandaluyong, Luzon: Basement 2 Parking, from 21 August 10 a.m. — 10 p.m. 3. SM City Fairview, Quezon, Luzon: 2nd Level Covered Parking, from 25 August, 10 a.m. — 9 p.m. (Sunday to Thursday), 10 a.m. — 9:30 p.m. (Friday to Saturday). 4. SM City Clark, Pampanga, Luzon: Ground Level, Sky Line Podium Parking, from 28 August, 10 a.m. — 9 p.m. 5. SM City Cebu, Cebu, Visayas: 3rd Level Parking, from 8 September, 10 a.m. — 9 pm. 6. SM Lanang Premier, Davao, Mindanao: Basement Parking, from 2 October 10 a.m. — 9 p.m. (Sunday to Thursday), 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. (Friday to Saturday). This endeavor aligns with SM's own environmental strategy. “At SM, we build on our long-term strategy toward net zero emissions by 2040. We commit to address issues that will impact the next generations and welcome Hyundai as our partner in this advocacy. We look forward to this collaboration and working with you in the years to come,” stated Steven T. Tan, president of SM Supermalls. The charging stations will feature AC chargers with Type 2 connectors and will be accessible free of charge to all EV and plug-in hybrid owners, irrespective of the vehicle brand. This partnership represents a significant step in promoting sustainability and broadening the adoption of electric mobility in the country. SM Supermalls, with 83 shopping centers nationwide, continues to lead the way in retail innovation, and with this partnership, opens new paths for environmental stewardship.
