The automotive landscape in the Philippines is set to witness a significant change with the introduction of the Omoda 5, a compact SUV from Chery International’s brand, Omoda.

Scheduled to arrive in October 2023, the Omoda 5 is poised to make a statement in the competitive market, offering both electric and non-electric versions.

The introduction of the Omoda 5 in the Philippines is part of this broader strategy, and the vehicle’s features, pricing, and performance are aligned to meet the specific demands of the local market.

To maintain competitiveness, the pricing is expected to be under P1.5 million for the non-electric version, while the electric version, known as the Omoda 5 EV, is rumored to be priced below the P2 million range.

The vehicle’s futuristic design and intelligent technology are evident in its dimensions: 4.4 meters long by 1.8 meters wide.

It is powered by a 1.5L TCI engine with a maximum power of 145 hp and 230 Nm of torque. The 9-speed CVT transmission with an electronic shifter ensures smooth driving, and the front-wheel drive with multi-driving modes (Eco/Sport) offers versatility.

The Omoda 5 EV, meanwhile, retains a similar shape to its non-electric counterpart but carries a sharper and more aggressive look. The absence of a gasoline engine enables the grill design to be smoother and sleeker in appearance, aligning with the young, tech-oriented theme that the brand aims to project. The vehicle has also achieved a 5-star safety rating in the European New Car Assessment Programme, reflecting a safety-conscious design.

In terms of features, the Omoda 5 EV is designed with advanced technology, including a 16-function active-safety suite, a 360-degree camera, a heads-up display, power-adjustable seats with heating and ventilation, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, an 8-speaker Sony sound system, and multiple charging options.

These features are expected to resonate with tech-savvy consumers in the Philippines.

Performance-wise, the Omoda 5 EV is powered by a permanent magnet synchronous motor with a liquid cooling system, estimated to produce around 204 PS and 400 Nm of torque.

It can travel between 300 to 450 kilometers on a full charge, offering flexibility and convenience for daily commuting and long-distance travel.
