A young import will be at the helm when Meralco hunts for its first title in the Commissioner’s Cup of the Philippine Basketball Association.

Bolts head coach Luigi Trillo confirmed to DAILY TRIBUNE that they have already signed up Feron Hunt to serve as their reinforcement for the season-ending conference set to open on 15 October.

A 6-foot-8 forward, Hunt will be coming in with a solid National Basketball Association G League experience that landed him a two-game stint with the New York Knicks.

He played for South Methodist University in the US National Collegiate Athletic Association before signing a two-way contract with the Knicks and their G League affiliate, Westchester, last year.

Although he went undrafted in the 2021 NBA Draft, Hunt was still able to post averages of 15.9 points and 4.6 rebounds for the Texas Legends two years ago.

Trillo said the 24-year-old Hunt is an athletic player who can take his game above the rim that will definitely make the Bolts one of the league’s most exciting teams.

It’s going to be Trillo’s first head coaching role at Meralco after taking over from multi-titled mentor Norman Black, an 11-time PBA champion coach who will be serving as consultant together with Serbian tactician Nenad Vucinic.

Aside from Hunt, also suiting up as reinforcements are Justin Brownlee of Barangay Ginebra San Miguel, Rondae Hollis-Jefferson of TNT Tropang Giga and Tyler Bey of Magnolia.

Brownlee will be suiting up for the Kings fresh from a stint as naturalized player for Gilas Pilipinas in the Asian Games while Hollis-Jefferson will compete for Jordan.

Bey, a second-round pick of the Philadelphia 76ers in 2020, is also expected to make an impact in his debut in Asia’s oldest professional basketball league.
