AP Bren players are not stressing themselves over getting an upper bracket spot in the Mobile Legends Professional League Philippines Season 12 Playoffs.
Composed of Southeast Asian Games gold medalists Angelo Kyle “Pheww” Arcangel, Kyle Angelo “KyleTzy” Sayson, Rowgien “Owgwen” Unigo, Marco “SUPER MARCO” Requitano, and David “Flap” Canon, the 2023 IESF world champion squad had seen themselves go up and down the ladder in the regular season.
They were at one point placed at No. 2, but a winless Week 3 in the tournament saw the squad fight tooth and nail for much-needed points heading to the Playoffs.
According to AP Bren coach Vrendon “Vren” Pesebre, the ongoing tournament is so competitive to the point that any team can snatch an upper bracket slot.
“We reviewed our past matches and from our coaching point of view, it did not boil down to anything technical. We talked and got rid of bad habits. We just had to get back to how we used to play,” Vren explained.
“The top two to six are close enough that even Minana Evos has a chance (to qualify to the Playoffs). No matter what happens, we just have to play the game. If we get the upper bracket, then that is a bonus.”
Defending MPL champion ECHO, of course, is an exemption.
After winning nine straight games, ECHO became the first team to qualify for the Playoffs and get an upper bracket slot.
In fact, ECHO was so dominant throughout the tournament that regardless of how it performed in Weeks 5 and 6, it already has a surefire slot in the Playoffs.
With one more week left in MPL Season 12, AP Bren, Blacklist International, and ONIC PH are fighting hard for a much-coveted upper bracket slot in the Playoffs while Minana Evos and Omega Esports are trying to avoid elimination by switching the top 6 and 7 spots in the ladder.
