Lyceum of the Philippines University aims to stop its two-game losing streak as it faces Jose Rizal University in the National Collegiate Athletic Association Season 99 men’s basketball tournament today at the Filoil EcoOil Centre in San Juan.

The Pirates, who are currently at second place with a 6-2 win-loss record, lock horns with the Heavy Bombers at 4 p.m. to solidify their spot in the second seed.

Meanwhile, San Beda University takes on University of Perpetual Help System Dalta in the first game at 2 p.m.

The Red Lions will be marching to battle oozing with confidence after posting a 74-70 win over Jose Rizal University last Saturday.

Also, San Beda coach Yuri Escueta will be returning from a one-game suspension after being slapped with back-to-back technical fouls against the Pirates last 8 October.

Lyceum started Season 99 with a bang with six straight wins to assume the top spot.

But back-to-back losses to Emilio Aguinaldo College and Mapua University sent the Pirates back to the drawing board after sliding down to second place.

Pirates head coach Gilbert Malabanan said they need to regain their old form, starting with knocking down their free throws and solidifying their defense.

“First we work out on the things that we have control like polishing my players foul shots. In our last two consecutive losses, we averaged on missed foul shots by 12.5 percent and that’s big especially when the opponent is up by two points in clutch moments,” Malabanan said.

“We also need to lessen our turnovers as well. It’s been giving easy points to our opponents.”

JM Bravo will try to build from his 19-point performance against Mapua whie Mclaude Guadaña also looking to stay consistent for the Pirates after a 4-of-7 shooting clip for 13 points.
