Jeron Teng will be donning the San Miguel Beer jersey when Season 48 of the Philippine Basketball Association fires off on 5 November.

In a video message, Teng was elated to join San Miguel, which is the same team that his father, Alvin, played for more than 30 years ago.

Teng signed a two-year deal with the Beermen, who already have a solid rotation featuring six-time Most Valuable Player June Mar Fajardo, CJ Perez, Chris Ross, Mo Tautuaa, Terrence Romeo and Marcio Lassiter as well as injured forward Vic Manuel, Allyn Bulanadi and Jericho Cruz.

“I’m excited because this is where my dad also used to play,” said Teng, whose father donned the Beermen jersey from 1986 to 1994 before playing for Pepsi, Sunkist and Mobiline.

Then, he joined the Metropolitan Basketball Association before wrapping up his professional career with Alaska in 2002.

“It will also give me a much better opportunity of finally winning a championship.”

Teng knows that joining a star-studded squad comes with high expectations.

Aside from having a father who was part of the franchise’s grand slam run in 1989, Teng will also serve as one of the torchbearers of the Beermen in the years to come together with Perez and Romeo.

Fajardo, for one, is already 33 years old while Lassiter and Manuel are already 36, Ross is 38 and Tautuaa is 34.

He is expected to provide additional scoring spunk that will allow Fajardo and Tautuaa to patrol the paint and Perez, Romeo, Bulanadi and Cruz to light up the scoreboard from the perimeter.

The Beermen will be reinforced by journeyman Tyler Stone as they seek to win their Commissioner’s Cup crown since 2019.
