The all-new, 6th generation Honda CR-V may be a bit heavy on the wallet.

Priced at P2.1 million for the front-wheel drive 1.5 V Turbo, P2.28 million for the mid-grade 1.5 VX Turbo AWD (all-wheel drive), and P2.59 million for the range-topping RS e:HEV (an electric hybrid), the CR-V is one expensive SUV but it’s best to also look beyond its price tag.

The Japanese automaker’s popular crossover SUV which now sports a different look with cutting-edge safety features and fuel-efficient powertrains, offers a smoother ride for its passengers.

It also has bigger dimensions, which means a more spacious passenger cabin. Compared to the previous generation, the new CR-V has an improved continuously variable transmission and all-wheel-drive system. And with a turbo-four engine that was tweaked to be more responsive and efficient, this Honda will never fail to impress.

Behind the all-new CR-V’s eye-catching grille is a 187-horsepower turbo gasoline engine that generates 240 Nm of torque. The RS e:HEV on the other hand, combines a 1.9-liter Atkinson engine (146 hp and 183 Nm of torque) with a dual electric motor that generates 182 hp and 335 Nm of torque.

Installed in the CR-V’s 1.5 V Turbo and 1.5 VX Turbo AWD is the Honda Sensing that has Adaptive Cruise Control, Low Speed Follow, Collision Mitigation Braking System, Lane Keeping Assist System, Road Departure Mitigation, Forward Collision Warning, Lane Departure Warning, Auto High Beam and Lead Car Departure Notification.

Worried that the CR-V’s headlights might affect the vision of oncoming drivers? The hybrid variant has all the safety techs previously mentioned, and comes with an Adaptive Driving Beam feature that alters the beam pattern of its headlights to help reduce glare for oncoming drivers.

Honda Connect

The all-new CR-V has an app that enables owners to communicate with their vehicle, check its status, and even be notified of alerts via smartphone.

Called the Honda Connect, it features a Security Alarm Detection which sends an alert to the owner’s smartphone when the vehicle alarm is triggered, and a Speed Alert that allows the owner to monitor the vehicle while it is being driven by someone else (e.g., a notification is sent to the CR-V owner if the person driving his or her vehicle has exceeded a certain speed limit).

Honda Connect also has a Find My Car feature that can help owners whenever they encounter difficulty in locating their vehicle. By sending a pin location to the CR-V owner’s smartphone, a Geofencing Alert notifies the  owner when the vehicle is taken beyond a set area limit.

Let’s not forget that emergency contacts are important; and inside the CR-V it’s now easier to ring up these contacts via the “Emergency Calls” feature included in the app.

Other notable features of Honda Connect are the Car Status that alerts the owner of anything that requires attention and doubles as the vehicle’s diagnostic support system (remote checking of the fuel level, battery, lock and airbag status).

Add to that the Remote Vehicle Control that allows the owner to control various limited functions of the vehicle like Remote Engine Start and Stop, Remote Air Conditioner Control, Remote Lock and Unlock and Remote Light Control.

The app’s Service Reminder automatically prompts the owner when the vehicle’s periodic maintenance is due and is capable of immediately scheduling an appointment with Honda’s nearest official service center.

If you’re someone who loves to document destinations, Honda Connect can help you share your memorable drives via social networking sites.

With various vehicle brands and models in the market to choose from, it’s really hard to come up with a decision when it comes to buying an SUV. However, there are certain SUVs that people simply love — like the CR-V — because they offer excellent value for the amount a buyer spends.

That’s why Honda pulled out all the stops and came up with the all-new CR-V. With its improved look, new level of safety and convenience, impressive passenger and cargo space, refined and comfortable cabin, efficient turbocharged engine, not to mention exceptional fuel economy, it is a CR-V worth every car buyer’s peso.
