Jerwin Ancajas is back home to resume his training for a world title crack in February 2024 in Tokyo.
Other than training, Ancajas is also using the opportunity to bond with his wife Ruth and four kids who he had not seen in almost a year as he was based in Las Vegas, Nevada.
“I am truly happy to be back home,” said Ancajas, who battles Takuma Inoue for the World Boxing Association bantamweight title at the Ryogoku Sumo Arena.
While he didn’t go home to take a break, Ancajas is still delighted that he got to be reunited again with his loved ones.
“It’s been a long time and moments like these with your loved ones during Christmas are precious,” he said.
Owing to the magnitude of his next fight, Ancajas would still be in training mode during the holidays.
He has been doing regular morning roadwork in Magallanes and Tagaytay City, proof that he is not slacking off and is focused on becoming a world champion again.
A few days ago, he showed up at the Rizal Memorial Sports Complex and sparred with members of the national team.
Working out with the country’s top amateurs should help him get ready for Inoue.
“Takuma’s not going to fight at close range… he’s going to move,” Joven Jimenez, Ancajas’ longtime trainer and manager said.
In the meantime, Ancajas is enjoying every minute of his return.
