Arwind denies Converge move

Arwind Santos is staying put.

In a message to Daily Tribune, the wiry forward dismissed speculations that he will be moving to Converge to seal his return to the Philippine Basketball Association.

“That’s not true,” the 42-year-old Santos said.

Santos had a stellar career in the PBA as he helped San Miguel Beer win nine titles — the last coming in the Commissioner’s Cup in 2019.

He, however, was traded to NorthPort in 2021 before moving to the Pampanga Giant Lanterns in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League, where he got reunited with his principal, Pampanga Gov. Dennis Pineda, who is coaching and bankrolling the program.

He found some measure of success in his homecoming as he led the Giant Lanterns to the title, sparking speculations that he will be joining Converge, a squad that also has Pineda as one of the main stakeholders.

Santos’ agent, Danny Espiritu, however, stressed that there is a possibility that the 6-foot-4 veteran will return to the Giant Lanterns.

“It’s a possibility,” he said.

In his previous statement, Santos expressed willingness to play in the PBA again and eventually have his last hurrah with the Beermen, who just clinched the Commissioner’s Cup title.

But for now, the plan remains on hold.
