National team boxers Claudine Veloso and Hergie Bacyadan vow to do better after their early exits in the 2024 1st World Olympic Boxing Qualifying in Busto Arsizio, Italy last month.

In an interview with DAILY TRIBUNE, Claudio said she is doing her best to hone herself to get selected again for the national team in the 2024 2nd World Olympic Boxing Qualifying in Bangkok from 23 May to 3 June.

So far, only Nesthy Petecio (women’s featherweight), Aira Villegas (women’s light flyweight) and Eumir Marcial (men’s light heavyweight) have already secured their slots for the Paris Olympics scheduled 26 July to 11 August.

“We’re still under observation but we’re doing our best to make up for the mistakes we made in Italy. We’re looking forward to learning from that stint if given the chance.”

The 24-year-old Veloso lost to Mikoto Harada of Japan in Round 32 of the women’s bantamweight division.

The Thailand slugfest in June will be the final chance for boxers looking to get an Olympic ticket.

Bacyadan also vowed to make the grade for the national team and looks to make up for her 2-3 loss against Pereira Viviane of Brazil in the Round of 64 of the women’s middleweight division

“My punches have power in them but I have to be faster in amateur boxing. I also have to remember to always keep my hands up and improve my footwork.,” Bacyadan said.

“I told the ABAP (Association of Boxing Alliances of the Philippines) that I would bounce back in Bangkok.”
