It’s only fitting that one of the busiest car distributorships in the Manila International Auto Show (MIAS) 2024 has an offering that rhymes with a bee: Ytterby.

The ‘busy bee’ of the MIAS 2024, Astara, unveiled the oddly named electric vehicle whose catchy name is only matched by its cute appearance.

This marked the first time Ytterby is viewed in the Philippines. However, it’s not for sale yet.

If you are smitten with the Jetour Ice Cream, or the newcomer BAW Pony, well, the JAC Ytterby — namesake of a little island in Sweden — just might be your type.

BEAUTY from front to rear.

Its headlights are doggy eyes that form the entire clean character of this EV. The back is just as adorable with leveled-up design.

There’s good enough space inside with flat floor for better leg stretch. Dashboard is of plastic but the 12.3-inch head console looked nice.

The vital statistics are 4,025 millimeters long, 1,770mm wide, and 1,560mm long. It’s as small as a subcompact hatchback.

It appeals to people looking to navigate through narrow roads of Metro Manila and having tight space for parking.

AND the environmental vibe.

Powered by 41 kilowatt-hour battery, it weighs 1,365 kilograms. But it can run to 400km to 500km on single charge. Full charge may take seven hours and maximum output is 94 horsepower on 135 newton-meter torque.

Known in China as the JAC Yiwei 3 or EV 3, the Ytterby actually looks similar to GWM’s Ora 03 in retro looks.

But it also has Mini Cooper styles shown on its lighting system with dual screen console for instrument and infotainment.

Certainly, Ytterby was a big hit during the MIAS last weekend, rivaling that of its JAC’s siblings which are all internal combustion engines.

It comes in three variants, the base 330km, 400km and 500km versions. Now if we could only know when the Ytterby would buzz by.
